The fixture is fitted to the base of the hand press then the punch or insert holder is fitted to the head of the press tool. A casting is then loaded onto the fixture which aligns the casting in the correct position after that an insert is placed in the casting or attached to the insert holder/punch, the hand press is operated manually and applies several tonnes of pressure to push the inserts into position.
This process can be repeated several 100 times per hour and u is reliable, repeatable and cost effective.
Inserts can be made from many materials including:
- Cast Iron
Yes, Inserts can be knurled to ensure their fitment to a casting joining the two parts to make a stronger component.
More than one insert can be fitted per cycle, this has many benefits including:
- Improves component integrity.
- Reduces secondary operations.
- Improves component quality which can hold tighter tolerances when casting inserts in to a casting.
Handling damage can be stopped by pick place layer packing with cardboard inserts between layers. Where necessary this can be improved by wrapping in tissue. Individual bagging in bubble wrap bags and pack into cardboard boxes. The process is reliable repeatable and cost effective.
